Katie Pearl Lynch Wray, age 95 of Rocky Mount, VA, passed on to her Heavenly Home on Saturday morning, May 11, 2013 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Katie was born March 27, 1918 at the Lynch Family Homeplace in Rocky Mount on Rt. 707. She grew up there with her parents, grandparents and many other loving family members that she always had very fond memories of.
Katie was the oldest of three children and the daughter of the late Edgar A Lynch and Sadie Crook Lynch. She was a devoted and loving wife of the late Kelly Wray for almost 62 years.
She was also preceded in death by her sister Mary Ellen Lynch Fralin and brother Eugene Lee Lynch.
Katie was a homemaker, a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a beautiful Christian lady that God had blessed with many talents. She had a green thumb for growing her beautiful flowers (roses were her favorite).She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden from which she used to cook her wonderful homemade meals, especially her potato salad and her delicious coconut cake. Katie was also a master seamstress, making most of her children clothes and her own. She also loved to crochet and needle point making quilts and many other beautiful things. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching birds, especially Cardinals which were her favorite. Above all however, she loved her Lord and Savior, her family and her Redwood United Methodist Church Family, where she was the oldest living member.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, son Colin Kelly Wray and wife Betty Wray of Glade Hill, daughter Darlene Wray Perdue of Rocky Mount; grandchildren Christie K. Wray and husband Del. David Ramadan of South Riding, VA, Kimberly P. Craghead and husband Steve Craghead of Wirtz, Colin Kevin Wray of Rocky Mount; great-grandchildren Steven Tyler Craghead and Katelyn Nicole Craghead ; nieces and nephew and cousins; also many special relatives and friends including her Red Oak Manor Family.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Larry and Patti Toler and staff at Red Oak Manor for their loving care she received over the past six years. Also to the Staff at Boones Mill Clinic, Carilion Hospice, and home healthcare….. God Bless You All! Funeral services will be conducted from Redwood United Methodist Church 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Rev. Bradley Dulaney officiating and Rev. Steve Pasley assisting. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Redwood United Methodist Church.
