Kevin Jay Swenson, 62, of Union Hall, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Kevin was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on April 13, 1961 the son of Jerrold Swenson and Jerilynn (Dyvik) Frerichs. He grew up in Ames, Iowa, and graduated Ames High School in 1979. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1984. While attending Iowa State Kevin met the love his life, Kristin Natvig of Charles City, IA. They married on March 30, 1985 and added two daughters: Lauren (1987) and Alexa (1992).
Kevin devoted his career in support of the US Armed Forces. First as a Logistics Specialist at the Air Force Material Command at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH, then as a Logistics Support Manager at the United States Strategic Command at McClellan AFB, CA and finally as an Acquisition Division Chief in the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate at the Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, VA, while supporting Kristin’s military career as a USAF officer. After several moves, Kevin & Kristin settled in Fairfax Station, VA where they raised their family.
After retiring, he and Kristin moved to their home on Smith Mountain Lake. VA. Kevin was happiest at the helm of his MasterCraft with his family aboard. He enjoyed landscaping, fishing, golfing and spending time with friends. Kevin never met a stranger; he struck up conversations with everyone he met and often turned them into long-time friends.
Kevin was very proud of his wife’s and daughter’s successes. He cherished the time spent as “Pop Pop” to grandchildren Max and Colette.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kristin, Union Hall, VA; daughters, Lauren, (Eric) Koutsoukos, Annandale, VA and Alexa Swenson, Virginia Beach, VA; grandson, Max, granddaughter, Colette; parents, Jerry (Kay) Swenson, Ames, IA and Jerilynn Frerichs, Muscatine, IA. sisters: Joni (Clay) Snaza, and Sheila (Jeff) Benson.

An additional celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 4 from 2-5 pm at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center, 2100 Green Hills Drive, Ames, IA (sharing of stories at 4pm).
