Lawrence Sloan

Lawrence Sloan, age 85 of Rocky Mount, entered into his eternal home in heaven Saturday, March 10, 2012. He was born on May 10, 1926 in Franklin County, Virginia. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, the late Ellis and Minnie Sloan. Survivors include his wife Mary Christine Maxey Sloan; sisters Shirley Thompson and Beulah Mountcastle; special family member David Dudley; stepchildren Loretta and Steve Mason, Alton Jr. and Mary Maxey, Lonnie Maxey and Lisa Chambers, Curis and Wanda Maxey; granddaughter Marcia and Joseph Cramblitt and Mary Joan Maxey and Logan Cook; grandson B.J. Webb; many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and special friends. Lawrence served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Wasp from 1944 to 1946. He was a devoted husband and loved his family. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
