My pain and suffering are over. I left this earth on October 19, 2024. I was born September 25, 1947, the sixth of ten children, to the late John A. Howard and Margaret Horton Howard. My brothers Emory Wayne Howard and John A. Howard Jr. and sister Margaret Ruth Kinsley gained their wings before me.
I leave behind three brothers – Marvin Howard (Lillie Mae), Larry Howard (Judy), Thomas Howard (Tammy Sue) – and three sisters – Bonnie Cregar (Arnold), Brenda Obert, Tammy Robertson (Johnny). Numerous nieces and nephews.
I started driving a school bus at age 17 before becoming a Pepsi driver out of Roanoke. I eventually moved to Michigan where I worked for many years at General Motors. I moved back to Virginia in 1984 to be closer to family.
I have always been an avid hunter and fisherman. Before becoming disabled, I spent my time gardening and cooking for friends. I soon became Lodge Master at “the cabin” at Smith Mountain, where I met numerous friends.
For those that know me well, you know I like a good cold mixed drink…so next time you have one, have one for me.
A special thank you goes out to my best friends for many years – Leon and Janet Richardson.
Thank you, Dr. Steven Lewis, for years of care and being a dear friend.
Additional thanks to the Amedisys Hospice Group and to caregiver Cindy Bryant.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
