Madaline J. Hodges, 100 of Rocky Mount passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the home of Joe and Beverly Rutter. She was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren where she served as a Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher.
Mrs. Hodges was born on October 14, 1914, a daughter of the late James O. and Annie S. Jordan; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alvin O. “Blackie” Hodges; two brothers; four sisters; one daughter, Elsie Young; two sons-in-law; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Surviving are her daughters, Francis H. Broce (Jim), Rebecca H. Preston (Alvah), Betty H. Hall, Billie H. Hodges, Patricia H. Law (Lewis), Doris H. Buckner (Fred) and Helen H. Bennett (Jimmy). She is also survived by one sister, Doris J. Cumbie and many nieces and nephews. In addition she is survived by 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel, 140 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Jeff Wray and Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Hodges Family Cemetery on Falcon Ridge Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren, c/o Thomas Young, 60 Belmont Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
