Martha Ann “Mot” Janney age 74 of Ferrum passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 16, 1947, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Myrtle Underwood and was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay Underwood (Sylvia), Phil Underwood (Joy), Monty and Jimmy Underwood.
Mot was the Manager of Crooked Road Mart in Ferrum where she worked for over 25 years. She loved being with and serving her customers and building relationships with them. They were more than customers, they were family. Due to those relationships, she became known as “The Queen of Ferrum”. She had a passion for old time music and dancing. She was indeed a true friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her son, Eddie Janney (Terri Hendricks); and her daughter, Lorrie Smith; granddaughter, Lillie Ann Smith (Austin Smith); siblings, Tim Underwood (Tammy) and Pat Scruggs; sister-in-law, Myrtle Underwood. She is also survived by her “Special” grandchildren, Addie, Hagan and Camden; many special friends including Sophie Durham and Dot Webb who were always there for her; her feline companion, Chester; numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022, with Dr. William R. Shively officiating. Interment will follow in Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
