Martha Helm Linnartz

Martha Helm Linnartz, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024 at her home in Roanoke, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Bernard and Lucy Wells Helm; husband, Robert Edward Linnartz; son, Michael Wayne Linnartz; and siblings Mawyer Helm (Hilda), Margaret Evans (Norman), Marie Ruske (Robert), and Mildred Conner (Marcus). She is survived by her daughter Dr. Linda Linnartz; granddaughters Emma Webb (Sam Ward) and Cristin Linnartz, and great grandsons Aiden and Grayson. 

She and her husband, Bob, spent thirty years camping on Smith Mountain Lake and was an avid water skier and fisherwoman. She was a great cook and was known for her cookies and pies. Martha was a gardener and loved growing heirloom tomatoes and eating tomato sandwiches in the summer. She saved seeds from her favorite varieties to grow the following year. She was also a longtime member of Windsor Hills Baptist Church.

Special thanks to Clifford Dumais for his care over the past five years and to Lisa Donavan and Gentiva Hospice for their care and support while Martha was in hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Windsor Hills Baptist Church in Roanoke or Franklin County Humane Society in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Abbey at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
