Martha Perdue

Martha Elizabeth Byrd Perdue, 69, of Union Hall VA, formerly of Columbus GA, passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), on Monday, January 16, 2012. She was preceded in death by her mother Frances H. Byrd of Columbus GA and father Leon Byrd; Uncles W. Ross Heck and William C. Daniel of Columbus GA and mother-in-law Lucille F. Perdue of Glade Hill, VA. Surviving are her loving and dedicated husband of 45 years Roger Lee Perdue; Son Chris Perdue and wife Ilene; daughter Allison P. Taylor and husband Mark; son David Perdue; Her five grandchildren Reid and Graham Taylor, Tucker Perdue, Andrew and Kayden Perdue, who were the joy of her life. Also surviving are one special Aunt Dorothy Daniel of Columbus GA; brother Russell Byrd and wife Carolyn of Griffin, GA; father-in-law Charles W. Perdue; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Debra Perdue; nephews Jason and Matthew Perdue all of Glade Hill, VA. Special cousins Ronnie and Terry Daniel and Gary Daniel of Columbus, GA. Special friends Linda Davis, Jeanette Carter and Betty Jean Poteet. The family would like to give a special thanks to all friends and extended family for their support and prayers, especially Dr. Richard Bedlack and the Duke ALS clinic, Dr. Kenneth Thelan, Franklin County health care and hospice, ALS Association of VA., and Susan Goodwin, caregiver. Martha was a loving wife, mother and “grandma” who dedicated her life to helping others; always putting others before herself. She will be sadly and deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Glade Hill Baptist Church (Building Fund); Glade Hill, VA. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner Bowman Funeral Chapel, Rt. 220 at Wirtz Rd., 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. David Long officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
