Mary Ellen Amos

Mary Ellen Kanode Amos, 89 of Boones Mill, VA went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. She was born on March 31, 1935 in Pembroke, VA to the late Robert Lee Kanode, Sr. who passed away before she was born and her mother, Iva Smith Kanode Wright and step-father, John Wright who raised her.

She spent her childhood in VA Beach, VA moving to Narrows, VA in her teenage years and later to Roanoke, VA where she met the love of her lift, Curtis and settled in Boones Mill, VA where she lived for 58 years in the same home. Mary Ellen and Curtis had 3 sons and started Boones Mill Speedometer Shop in the 1970's. She loved her horses, dogs, cats, plants, and flowers. She liked going on adventure rides with her grandson, Cory, going on vacation and spending time with family and friends. Her grandson's dogs Lucid and Apollo would go to see her every day.

She attended Hales Ford Baptist Church until her health declined. Mary Ellen, Shirley Funk, and Sally Sirry, AKA, The Three Musketeers are now reunited. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Thomas Amos, 8-28-2002; son, Rickey (Kathy); daughter-in-law, Janet Amos; 3 brothers, Robert Kanode, Jr., Raymond Kanode, Sidney Kanode; 3 sisters, Dana Robertson, Wilma Hanning, Hattie Gaschaski.

She is survived by her sons, Barry (Susan), Derrick (Sharon); grandson Cory Amos; granddaughter, Danielle King and many loving nephews and nieces; special friends, Alice Firebaugh, Mary Vandergrift, and Judy Cook. The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Patti Funk, Loretta Garber, and Lucy Kirkpatrick and to Carilion Hospice Ladies, Helen Wilcox, Julianne Cooke, CeCe Varnum and Jewel McLaclair.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Melvin Harris (Retired) from Halesford Baptist Church and Hospice Pastor Rick Poland officiating. Her family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 30 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Pallbearers include, Cory Amos, Izaac Garber, Jonah Garber Tony Settlewhite, Eathon Taliaferro, Bobby Funk, Matthew Garber, and Robbie Harden.
