Mary Lou Gibson was a caring wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born January 7, 1950, and left this world on October 29, 2024, at age 74.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Ernest "Hoot" Gibson, parents William Buford and Virginia Belle Robertson, sister Nora Grace Eggleston, and dear friend Darrell Jefferson. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Erik) White, granddaughter Grace White, her sweet boys Liam and Carter Robertson, sister Deborah (Scott) Ferron, brothers Johnny (Tammy) Robertson, Buddy Robertson, Tim Robertson, and many nieces and nephews she treated as her own.
Mary Lou dedicated over 50 years to Carl's Place in Penhook. Everyone who stopped in the hometown diner on highway 40 was greeted with a smile and "Hey ya'll." She brought her love for food to every family and church gathering, including her potato salad (which despite attempts, no one has been able to replicate).
Mary Lou was a faithful Christian, a staple of Free Saints Holiness Church, and the lead voice of every hymnal tune, loudly and proudly from the second pew.
If you knew Mary Lou, you know she loved to help others. Mary Lou was an active life member of Cool Branch Rescue Squad for over 36 years, volunteering her time as a first responder since its inception in 1988. She also served her community as a member of many organizations and charitable groups.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Family will receive friends and guests Friday, Nov. 1st 6-8pm at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (62 Virginia Marketplace Dr. Rocky Mount) and services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 11 am at Free Saints Holiness Church in Penhook. Mary Lou's final wish was to embellish the church with many floral arrangements; we hope to make her proud.
