Mary (Liz) Elizabeth Robertson

Mary (Liz) Elizabeth Robertson, 90 of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Franklin County, VA passed away on May 5, 2017. She was born on May 24, 1926 on a farm in Callaway, VA. She attended Averett Junior College and graduated from Mary Washington College with a BS in Chemistry. Immediately after college, Liz taught returning WWII veterans at Ferrum College and then taught middle school in West Virginia. She moved back to Roanoke and worked at Liberty Mutual insurance. She then returned to her first love of teaching and moved to Raleigh, NC teaching second grade at Jeffrey’s Grove Elementary School for many years. Liz loved her family especially being with her siblings and her nieces and nephews. She had a close group of friends who called themselves the Birthday Club who met every month for many years to celebrate each other’s birthdays, but mainly just to enjoy each other. Liz loved God, her church and her circle. Liz is survived by her sisters Nancy Glaize of Pensacola, FL and Kathy MacGregor of Peabody, MA, her sister-in-law, Mary Robertson of Virginia Beach, VA, nieces and nephews, Beth Glaize Butler and husband, David, Charles Glaize and wife Carole, John Glaize and wife Barbara, Ed Glaize and his wife Alecia, James MacGregor and wife Mary, Robert MacGregor and wife Dana, and Jane Robertson Harrod and husband Dan. Liz was preceded in death by her parents John Maurice Robertson and Lizzie Cole Robertson, her brother, John Maurice Robertson, Jr. and her niece, Deborah Jean Robertson. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Callaway Community Cemetery in Callaway, VA with the Rev. Dr. Ed Glaize officiating. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church at 112 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, North Carolina with her family receiving friends after the service.
