Mary Frances Brubaker Lucas, 82 of Rocky Mount passed away peacefully with family members by her side on Sunday, July 28, 2013 after a long illness.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer A. Lucas; children, Donna and Edwin Lucas; her parents, Isaac and Viola Brubaker; and two brothers, Lewis and George Brubaker.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She worked at Ben Franklin in Rocky Mount and as the Cafeteria Manager at Callaway School and was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren.
Mary is survived by her children, Leon and Sharon Lucas, California, Deborah and Tom Guthrie, Boones Mill, James Lucas, Rocky Mount, Diane and Alan Hartman, Callaway, Darlene and Cliff Davis, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michele and David Lucas, California, Tabitha and Daniel Rudy, Roanoke, Mattie Hartman and David Atkins, Rocky Mount, Jamie Guthrie, Boones Mill; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Peggy Brubaker; six sisters, Ruth Graham, Lorine and Francis Slough, Gracie and Jesse Mullins all of Callaway, Ruby Wells, Goodview, Betty Ann and Henry Wagner, Rocky Mount, Marie Brubaker, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Dee Sarver, Mom’s sitter for the past year and special neighbors, Shea and Kelsey Angell,Franklin Health Care, and Carilion Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 with Pastor Tim Emmons officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, it was Mrs. Lucas’s request that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Boones Mill Fire and Rescue Squad, Callaway Fire and Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice.
The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 6 – 9 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, (Route 220) 62 Virginia Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount.
