Mary Overfelt

Mary Frances Martin Overfelt, age 91, of Boones Mill, VA left the bonds of this earth and entered into the gates of Heaven on May 7, 2014. She was born November 23, 1922 to the late Leonard (Buck) and Ellen Martin. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, David E. Overfelt, Sr. and a Son, D. Early Overfelt, Jr. She is survived by two Daughters; Janie Bryant and Husband Dewey of Henderson, Nevada, Margaret Miller of Boones Mill, VA; two Sons, Donald Overfelt of Boones Mill, VA, Reggie Overfelt and wife Sharon of Roanoke, VA. Also surviving to cherish her memory are 18 Grandchildren; Lisa, Lorrie, Keith, Kelley, Les, Crystal, Connie, Scott, Ginger, Valerie, Matthew, Heather, Wilbert, Jonathan, Airelle, Bradley, Adam, and Ashley. Frances also has 25 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. There are numerous Nephews and Nieces also. Also surviving are her 3 Brothers, Jack Martin of Daleville, VA, Herbert (Boce) Martin of Boones Mill, VA, and Leonard (Pooner) Martin and wife Patsey of Boones Mill, VA. Also surviving is her special Caregiver and Daughter-In-Law Rose Hurd. Frances was affectionately known as Mama, HaHa, Sissy, Granny, Grandma, and Aunt Frances, but whichever name she answered to, she was dearly loved by all. Frances and Dave raised 5 children and weathered all the storms that come with a large family. She was a homemaker and loved to cook. She served some of the most scrumptious meals you ever tasted and all in an always spotless house. She was a talented guitar player and we all enjoyed the many tunes she could bring forth from those strings. We can only assume she is now playing guitar with Early on his banjo. Frances was an avid reader and also enjoyed working jig saw puzzles from an early age. She was a baptized believer in Christ from her youth, attending church at Red Hill Baptist whenever possible. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 220 Location, 2 p.m. Sunday with James Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
