Mary Elizabeth Price Woody, age 82 of Rocky Mount joined her parents Carlton DeMoss Price and Gussie Cheek Price Clarkson and son Taylor Carlton Woody in heaven on December 6, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John P. and Mary Ann Woody.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years as of November 18, 2017, Dennis T. Woody, and daughters: Sally Elizabeth, Linda Price, and Pamela Denise Woody. She is also survived by one cherished brother of Tennessee, C. DeMoss Price (Phyllis) and nieces, Melissa, Staci, and Frances; nephews, Johnny and Tony; and several cousins.
She was born in Taylor’s Store in Burnt Chimney, Virginia and grew up among many beloved cousins who affectionally called her “Sister”. As a child, she loved spending time with her brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins playing and working on the farm and in the garden. She was May Queen, even though she was quite the tomboy, and an accomplished basketball player at Franklin County High School. She loved to go to the “big city of Roanoke” as a child and spend time with her aunts and cousins while going downtown.
She attended Jefferson School of Nursing and was employed at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She took a sabbatical to raise her four children but returned to FMH as her youngest child was leaving elementary school.
She loved being a care giver and loved working at the hospital where she considered the patients, physicians, and co-workers part of her extended family.
She was a Methodist, like her mother, but became a member of Beulah Baptist Church while raising her family and took on many roles within the Church.
Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her daughters and shared her smile and love with everyone. She was always eager to begin a conversation with anyone she would meet along life’s journey. She loved life and loved people.
Thank you to a special care giver and friend, Shirley Suffel, and the nurses and staff at Franklin Memorial Hospital and the staff at Franklin Health and Rehab. A special thanks to Dr. Amo-Mensah, Dr. Saunders, Dr. Scarlatescu, Palliative Care Nurse Donna, and Case Worker Kim at FMH. It was a comfort to her family to have her die in her beloved second home of FMH.
She had three friends who made her feel special from her head (Debbie Dillon) to her toes (Yvonne Early) and all over (Shirley Suffel).
She was a loving, supportive, encouraging, spirited, charming, and caring wife, mother, sister, cousin, friend and co-worker. God, family, and nursing were her passions in life.
The children knew they were loved each day by her actions and words in small and large ways.
In her memory, be kind to others, speak to strangers, have a smile on your face, and brighten others’ day.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor’s David Saleeba and Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12 p.m. until service time.
