Colonel Maurice Holt, age 78, of Callaway, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2012. He was born January 13, 1934, a son of the late Dewey Alger and Betsy Mullins Holt. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Mary H. Wimmer, James William Holt, Alger Marshall Holt, and Audrey M. Holt. Maurice was a devoted member of the Callaway Ruritans and Piedmont Presbyterian Church, where he served in many capacities over the years, including Elder and Deacon. He worked for Bowman’s Appliance for 30 years and was a fireman for Roanoke City for 28 years until he retired to his true passion, which was farming. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah Virginia (Jane) Renick Holt; children, Patricia H. McHuch (Dennis) of Salem, Debbie H. Walters (Robert) of Cumming, GA, Russell M. Holt (Martha) of Palmyra, and Sonja H. Weaver (Mark) of Boones Mill; grandchildren, William Joseph Albert, Robert Trevor Albert, Ashley Renee Albert, Jessica Layne Walters, Hannah Catherine Walters, Amber Dawn Weaver, and April Lauren Weaver; siblings, Samual G. Holt (Joice), Virginia H. Boitnott, Nancy H. Setliff, and Stella H. Couch; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Piedmont Presbyterian Church with Mr. Jack Milliron and Rev. David Codington officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Monday at Conner-Bowman funeral Home & Crematory, Route 220 S. @ Wirtz Rd., Rocky Mount, Virginia.
