Melva "Polly" Hodges

d. July 6, 2014

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love HIM..." - 1 Corinthians 2:9 The days of eating freshly baked red velvet cakes, finding a quilting frame in front of a TV playing Young & the Restless, walking in the house with the disgusting smell of delicious cabbage boiling on the stove, and hearing tales of travels far and wide have long since passed. It gave way to lost pocketbooks and misplaced keys, a constant hunt for a favorite watch, and TV remotes wrapped in aluminum foil stored carefully in her purse. After a diagnosis of dementia in 2011, slowly the mother, grandmother, sister and friend everyone loved began to slip away. Due largely in fact to the type of person she was and the family she raised, she was able to remain at the home she loved until the end. On July 6, 2014 Melva "Polly" Hodges, passed away at her home surrounded by those who loved her so much. Regardless of what the dementia stole from her and her family she will always be remembered as a faithful Christian woman who was a member at Redeeming Life Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 50 years, a giver who was kind to everyone no matter the circumstance, and someone who always had a smile on her face and a hug for everyone who came through her door. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude "Jesse" Hodges, her daughter, Cheryl Ellis and grandson, Ricky Lee Carter. Surviving are her children: Pap Hodges (Cathy), Barry Hodges (Nancy), Barbara Carter (Roger), Kimberlee Gentry (Mack). Grandchildren: Brenda Davis, David Bowles (Terri), Brian Bowles (Debra), Sandy Pagans (Tony), Jeanette Mullins (Mark) Laura Lee Carter, Shanna Smith (Kyle), and Kelsey Lynn Hodges. 11 Great grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Also 4 sisters: Mae Nagy, Lonnie Holland, Virginia Hodges , Carolyn Lyman Two Brothers: Jim Greer, Edward Greer Her immediate family honored her final wishes in a private ceremony on Thursday, July 10, 2014 A memorial service, officiated by Pastors Dave Smith and Jackie Spence, to celebrate her life for all family and friends will be held at her beloved church, Redeeming Life Pentecostal Holiness Church on Saturday July 19, at 7:00PM.
