Michael David Childers

Michael David Childers, age 59 of Rocky Mount passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the local hospital. He retired from the Virginia State Police after 30 years of service where he was a Senior Special Agent. Born November 15, 1950 in Buena Vista, he was a son of the late Vernon and Lorraine Childers and survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia Lee Childers; his daughters, Sarah Shockley and husband Nick, Rocky Mount and Emily Childers, Salem; his beloved grandchildren, Katie and Cole Shockley; sister and brother-in-law Penny and Fred David, Lakeworth, Florida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Billy and Susie Lee, John and Linda Lee, New Castle and Penny Lee, Maryland. He is also survived by a number of special law enforcement and Blue Knight friends. A memorial service will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 with Pastors Ronald Coleman and T.G. Ayers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 322 Eastover Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
