Mike Monroe

Arthur Michael Monroe, age 67 of Moneta, VA, died of complications from pneumonia on March 8, 2015, in Roanoke Virginia. Mike is survived by his wife Marian Furtado Monroe of Moneta, VA; his daughter Valerie Monroe Hofer of Fairless Hills, PA; his daughter Samantha Michele Broughton of Florence, SC; sons in law Michael James Hofer and Matthew Fewell Broughton; grandsons Jeremy Michael Hofer, Jefferson Jason Hofer, and Zachary Alexander Broughton. He is also survived by Eleanor Monroe (mother), Maryanne Tackeff (sister), Jeffery Monroe (brother), Marie France Furtado (mother in law) brothers in law: Roger Tackeff, Michael Rossamondo, Regis Furtado, Tony Furtado; sisters in law: Stephanie Monroe, Yvonne Rossamondo, Joyce Chrzan, Rita Furtado; nephews Judson and Simeon Monroe, Michael and David Tackeff, Michael Rossamondo, Jonathon and Steven Furtado; nieces Caitlin and Jennifer DeFino, Megan Rossamondo, Santina and Mary Furtado. He is preceded in death by his father Jefferson Davis Monroe and brothers in law Steven and Frank Furtado. Mike was born on March 27, 1947 in Cornwall New York to parents Eleanor Sonntag Monroe and Jefferson Davis Monroe. After attending Highland Falls (NY) High School he graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1968 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Over the course of his career he worked at Goodyear Nuclear, Merck, and Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals. He was a great husband and father, enjoyed his golf and will be missed by all. A memorial is scheduled at Conner Bowman Funeral Services, 62 Virginia Market Place Drive Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Visitation with the family is at 12:30 and the service is at 1pm on March 21, 2015. In lieu of flowers we ask a donation to be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
