Muriel Matney Leedy Dillon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died peacefully at her home in Boones Mill, Virginia on July 15, 2014. Born in Bluefield, VA, on May 27, 1927, she graduated from high school in Welch, WVA. “Leedy”, a Registered Professional Nurse, received her diploma in nursing from Lewis Gale Hospital School of Nursing. She served in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps at McGuire Army Hospital and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond during World War II. After devoting herself to her family for a number of years she returned to her career as public school nurse in Franklin County, retiring after 14 years of service. Leedy was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Byron and Cecil Mae Matney Leedy and siblings Robert Leedy, Ted Leedy, Alice L. Mason, Allen B. Leedy and her brother-in-law Harold Lewis Dillon. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Cyrus Irvin Dillon, Jr., children Cy Dillon, III and wife Karen, Elizabeth D. Meador and husband Billy, Charlotte D. Hubbard and husband Keith, and Bonny K. Dillon. Leedy is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea M. Smith (Matthew), Jim Dillon (Suzanne), Ann-English Weaver (Russell), Richard Meador (Morgan), Cliff Hubbard, Maggie Hubbard, Charlie Hubbard, and six great grandchildren. Our grateful family also acknowledges Leedy’s faithful caregivers: Hannah, Bonnie, Linda J, Linda Q, Dee, Danielle, Brandy, Carilion Hospice of Franklin County and Home Instead Senior Care. Through years of faithful Christian service she was a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke and Fairmont Baptist Church in Boones Mill. The family will receive visitors at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 220 @ Wirtz Rd., 62 Virginia Market Place Dr., Rocky Mount on Friday, July 18, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 19, 11:00 a.m. at Fairmont Baptist Church 1669 Bethlehem Rd., Boones Mill, VA. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill. Flowers will be appreciated or donations are encouraged to the Franklin County Public Library Bookmobile, 335 Franklin St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
