On Friday January 22, Nancy Jeanne (May) McCreedy of Boones Mill, lost her ten-year battle with Leukemia. She became interested in the field of corrections and worked as a Probation and Parole Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections in Orlando and for the Virginia Department of Corrections in Roanoke. She retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections in January 2008. She was preceded in death by her father Dale E. May, an uncle Robert Preston and an aunt, Maxine Gnagy. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth McCreedy of Boones Mill; her mother Doris May; a brother David May; a sister-in-law Debbie May; and a nephew Ryan May all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also has a niece Amy Fortner and a grand nephew Austin Fortner of Rowley, Iowa and a God-son Jonathan Kerr of Richmond. A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in the Vaughn Chapel on the Ferrum College campus.
