Naomi Crowe, mother, wife, grandmother, beautiful human, and Mallo Cup lover, age 81 of Wirtz, took her leave peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Naomi was born on May 9, 1936 to parents Roy and Fanny Barrow, who preceded her in death. Naomi was also preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Collie Sr., her second husband, Denton Crowe, her sisters Frances Barrow and Jean Hodge, and her brother Jim Barrow.
Naomi was a devoted mother and wife, who rarely took the easy road. However, she never complained about the hand she was dealt. She raised her children as best she could after the death of her first husband, and carried on through many trials throughout her life, showing the light of her beautiful heart to anyone she encountered. Naomi was proud of her liberal views of the world, and once she was educated on a situation, a culture, or a community, her heart was open to all who may be different than her. She loved her family, above all else, and put each of them before herself, no matter the cost. She had a strong faith system, believing in Christian teachings, but never offering judgment. She placed a hopelessly endearing spin on the English language, many times creating her own words, simply because she could, and because she embraced her Appalachia roots. She loved flowers, she loved spring, and she loved the beauty of the world around her. Naomi touched many hearts, and her impact and legacy will live on forever.
Naomi is survived by her sons Danny Barrow of NC, and Leonard Collie Jr. of Danville, VA; her loving and amazing daughters, who cared for their mother diligently, and without complaint for the past 5 years, Belinda and Charlotte Collie of Wirtz and Rocky Mount, VA; her loyal son Scott Collie, and his wife, Michelle, of Rocky Mount, VA; and a strong willed, opinionated, but loving and devoted son, Tim Collie, and his husband Carl Dressler III, of Salem, VA. Naomi is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Roberts, of Alton, VA; James Collie, of Roanoke, VA; Jason Collie, of Rocky Mount, VA; Amanda Collie, of Wirtz, VA; Destiny Collie of Sumter, SC; and her sisters Helen Davis and Juanita Bowling, and her brother, Roy Lychester Barrow, all of Martinsville, VA; as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 6 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 with Pastor Rick Poland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 5 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive (Route 220 @ Wirtz Road), Rocky Mount.
