Nathan "Nick" Carroll

September 18, 1958 — May 1, 2023

Nathan “Nick” William Carroll of Hardy, VA, unexpectedly passed away from this life on Monday, May 1, 2023.  He was born on September 18, 1958 in Wilmington, DE to the late Warren William and Nancy A. Carroll.  He is survived by one brother and three sisters, Garnett Carroll (Merry), Teresa Truman, Deborah Sutphin and Emma Carroll; Diane “Mama” Carroll of New York, and a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece and nephew.

Nick spent the early part of his life doing what he enjoyed the most…performing and teaching music.  He was quite successful, especially in his teaching career with students including, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ricky Martin and Debbie Gibson, to name a few.  He performed at functions for governors, dignitaries, weddings, off-Broadway productions, plays and anything else afforded to him.  After leaving New York, he moved to Greensboro, NC where he worked at Moses Cone Hospital for a number of years.  From there, he returned to VA and completely changed the direction of his life.  He was the biscuit maker at Bojangles, Rocky Mount for about 14 years.  He retired but soon decided he couldn’t just sit around, so he recently went to work at Dollar General. This was a perfect job for him as he loved people, young and old and he never met a stranger.

His absence will be felt by so many; family, friends, and co-workers.  All the concern, messages, calls, prayers and well wishes extended to our family at this time has been absolutely overwhelming.  Nick touched so many lives with his encouraging, joyful, common-sense approach to life and people and we thank God for the blessing of just knowing him.  Per Nick’s wishes, there will be no viewing or service.

Arrangements by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home and Crematory, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA  24151.
