Nellie Young Holland

Nellie Young Holland, age 99 of Rocky Mount passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. She was born on February 5, 1918 to the late Andrew Jackson Young and Sophia Ann Sink Young. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Walter Herbert Holland; sons, Bobby Joe Holland and Billy Douglas Holland; son-in-law, David Riley Messer; grandson, David Christopher Messer; and siblings, Lois Young, Wilsie Young, Virgie Young Robertson, Lawrence Young, Paul Young, Ruby Young and Irene Young. She was a homebody and a hard worker. She was a lover of growing and preserving foods, plants and flowers and loved sharing these with friends. She loved her family, her home and her friends. Nellie is survived by her daughter, Shirley Holland Messer of Asheville, NC, 4 grandchildren, Mark Andrew Messer (Susan J.), Whitney Messer Burns (Samuel), Hannah Holland Cruz (Daniel), and Chelsey Holland Magill (Evan); 7 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Memorial Mission Hospital ER and Trauma Center Doctors and Staff, Care Partners Pallative Hospice Center in Asheville, Ministers/friends of First Baptist Church of Asheville, NC.
