Norma Jean Young

Norma Jean Young, passed away on May 17, 2016 at Carilion Franklin Memorial in Rocky Mount, VA. She was surrounded by many loving family members who have been by her side continually over the past several days. She was born December 7, 1935 in Koehler, Virginia to the late George Dewey Mullins and Doris Sink Mullins. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carl William Young, Sister Virginia Chaney, Brother’s Buddy Mullins & Hilman Mullins, Granddaughter Rhonda Mullins-Barbour, great grandchildren Timothy Lee Barbour and Carl Dillon Barbour, 1 great great grandchild, Taylor Leigh Chisom. She is survived by her life partner Billy Dixon, as well as Children; Mitchell Young, Timmy Young, Debra Cox & husband Rick, Phyllis Grodensky & husband Steve Grodensky, Glenda Weiss & Ronald Weiss. Norma Jean had 13 grand kids, 23 great grand kids and 6 great great grandchildren. Norma Jean is also survived by her brothers and sisters; George "Pete" Mullins and wife Doris of Ferrum, Marlene Eames and husband Paul of Rocky Mount, Mary Young and husband James of Rocky Mount, Larry Joe Mullins of Henry, Gary Mullins of Henry, Kathy Collins of Martinsville, and many loving nieces and nephews. Norma Jean Young resided in Henry, VA for the past 42 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and much much more. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday from Lynch Conner Bowman Home ( Town Chapel). Interment will follow in the Young-Ratliff Family Cemetery in Henry. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount. The family will also receive visitors at the home of her son Timmy Young, 24 Little Creek Drive Bassett, VA 24055 at other times.
