Norman R. (Buddy) Koontz, age 93 of Moneta, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Mr. Koontz was born on February 17, 1923 a son of the late Ruben Hollis and Mary Margaret Buckman Koontz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myra Dudderar Koontz; his daughter, N. Rebecca (Becky) Koontz; three brothers, Herman, Elbert and Wilfred Koontz; and one sister, Hallie Baltzell McLaren.
Mr. Koontz was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army, he was also a farmer in Frederick County, Maryland for many years and later became a Lab Technician with cancer research at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. Norman was also a longtime member of Linganore United Methodist Church, one of the oldest members if not the oldest. He was a longtime member of the Libertytown-Unionville, Maryland Lions Club where he received the highest honor one can receive through Lions International, The Melvin Jones Award. He was also a Lifetime member of the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post # 11.
Mr. Koontz is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William H. (Bill) and Carolyn R. Koontz, Moneta, Virginia; granddaughter, Stephanie M. Koontz; grandson, David R. Koontz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
It was Mr. Koontz’s desire that his body be donated to Anatomical Science for scientific and medical research.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the Linganore United Methodist Church at a later date.
