Olen Simmons Phillips of Rocky Mount, VA passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016. He was the son of the late Fitzhugh Simmons Phillips and Edna Ivan Turpin Phillips. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Kingrea. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from G. E. Manufacturing. He was an excellent woodworker and builder; loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He and his wife also loved to see new places and travel, they visited all 50 states along with 52 foreign countries. They were snowbirds that enjoyed time in Florida during the winter months. Surviving are his wife, Wilma Phillips; children, Mark Phillips, Julie Harman (Bobby), Merle Meadows (Harry); five grandchildren, Clay Meadows (Marcy), Eric Harman, Shannon Harman (Wendy), Jason Brammer, Michael Brammer; two special great grandchildren, Claire Meadows, Skyler Harman; brother, Gerald Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Conner Bowman Funeral Home with Dr. Jackie Spence and Dr. Brian Goard officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U. S. Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. before the service at the funeral home.
