Paul Christopher Mitchell

On Tuesday, November 8, the Lord blessed Paul Christopher Mitchell, age 90 to go to his heavenly home and be reunited with his wife of 64 years, Alvie Chrystine Mitchell. He was born on July 29, 1926 to the late General Lee and Alverda Gertrude David Mitchell. He was the last surviving sibling of five children and preceded in death by siblings Silas Mitchell (Mary), Melva Arrington (Jesse), Ethel Shelton (Clarence), and Leona Rakes (Earnest). He enlisted in the United States Army on October 22, 1946 and served as Private Paul C. Mitchell during World War II, specially qualified as a rifleman and was honorable discharged on October 21, 1949. He met and married Alvie Chrystine Mitchell, the love of his life on April 23, 1949. Anyone who ever knew them understood the two were inseparable. Mr. Mitchell worked as a mechanic for a pants factory in Martinsville, Va., and later began working for Bristol Mfg. in Rocky Mount, VA., where he retired on April 16, 1992. Surviving are his Children, Pauline & Sammy Chitwood, Joyce & Donald “Satch” Worley, Janet & Buren Johnson, Gail & Rocky Holley and Cynthia Booth; Grandchildren, Ronald & Chasity Campbell, Beth Davis, Greg Davis, Jenny & Reggie McGhee, Stacey & Richard Stanfield, Dennis & Gaytha Worley, Daniel & Jennifer Worley, Patrick & Kellie Johnson, Leanne & Jeff Worley, Steve & Tara Holley, Jessica Swartz, Tina & Travis Lovell, Sarah Booth, and Ryan Booth; Great-Grandchildren, Dakota Campbell, Remington Davis, Christian Davis, MaHaley McGhee, Vandalina Holcomb, Verity Stanfield, Cale & Ashley Worley, Zach & Faith Worley, Claire Worley, Brayden Walmsley, Cayson Walmsley, Timothy Johnson, Greg Holley, Julia Holley, Rachel Worley, Braylee Bowman and Kimberly Hodges. He is also survived by special double first cousins Jean Mitchell and Frances Holland; Sisters-in-law Marie Shively (Bobby), Georgia Brown & Shirley Brown; brother-in-law J.C. Brown and many nieces, nephews and special friends. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Chaconas & Associates, Dr. Platt, Dr. Unwin, Carilion Home Health Staff: Cathy, Austina, Lydia and the Franklin Health & Rehab nurses, CNA’s, special therapist and staff for all their love and care. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (Town Chapel) 1:00 p.m. Friday with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
