Pauline Rakes Spencer

Pauline Rakes Spencer, age 82 of Ferrum, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was born May 9, 1935 to the late Charles Rakes and Effie Nolen Rakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Erie Spencer; brothers Marvin, Clifford and Billy Rakes; sisters Mary Rakes and Gerene Rakes. Pauline was a very loving and caring person who loved country music and gardening, especially her flowers. Surviving are her children Rodney Lee Spencer (Patty), Melvin Raney Spencer, Rickey Randolph Spencer (Madonna); seven grandchildren Monica, Michael, Matthew, Randy, Regina, Nathan and Adam; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers Larry and Lane Rakes; sisters Naomi DeHart (Alfred), Vickie Turman (Charles); sisters-in-law Martha Rakes, Vivian Rakes and Linda Rakes. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 260 Henry Rd., Ferrum, VA 24088. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Peter Choi officiating. Interment will follow in Endicott Hill Cemetery. Her family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service beginning 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, Virginia.
