Melvin Leonard (Peanut) Walker, age 75 of Rocky Mount went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Peanut was born on June 7, 1941 to his loving mother, Violet Blankenship Walker and the late Herman Walker. In addition to his mother, Peanut is also survived by his sister Jean Greer and husband, Lee; niece, Rhonda Bernard Sedovy and husband John, and their children, Meghan, Chris and John Ryan of Lexington; nephew Brad Bernard and his wife Kirsten, and their children, Brynn, Blair and Beau of Annapolis, Maryland; aunt, Elva Cundiff, Rocky Mount.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Shelby Blankenship for being our angel and caring for us all.
In his younger days you could find Peanut working at Bristol Manufacturing Company, the Moose Lodge, or Franks Café. Although he never drove he could thumb a ride to town quicker than you could drive because he always threw up his hand and had a smile for everyone. Later in life he enjoyed traveling with his best friends Velma and Lynden Robertson. Peanut intensely loved his family and all his “children”.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 with Pastor Richard W. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday with his family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive (Route 220 at Wirtz Road), Rocky Mount. www.connerbowman.com (540) 334-5151
