Rachel Matthews Mattox

Rachel Matthews Mattox, age 99, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 11 days from her 100 birthday. She rose up to heaven to be with her loving husband, of 45 years, Eugene H. Mattox, her mother and father, Cora McBride Matthews and James Matthews; sisters, Ruth Hodges (H.M.), Gladys Frazier (Cicero), infant Barbara Matthews; brothers, Thomas R. Matthews (Addis), Nelson M. Matthews (Frances) and Wilbur M. Matthews (Linda). She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Stone (D. Wayne); son, Eugene W. Mattox (Ruth); sister, Hazel Turner; grandchildren, Kim Mattox Ellis (Mark), Amy S. Quinn, Chris Stone (LaLainya); great-grandchildren, Logan Quinn, Samantha and Ethan Stone and numerous nieces and nephews. Always close to her was her church family at Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church where she and her family were and are members for approximately 64 years. She takes with her our earthly love and will welcome the bounty of heaven. A special thanks to the various health care facilities where she has lived, all of the doctors, nurses, and care providers who have contributed to her longevity and wellbeing for 99 years. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Park.
