Raymond Amos

Raymond Amos, age 86, of Boones Mill, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010. He was born September 21, 1924 a son of the late Owen and Maddie Green Amos and was preceded in death by 4 brothers; and 7 sisters. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 434th Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force. He served in all five major campaigns of the European Theatre and was a member of the Boones Mill Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gelene Amos; Sons Wayne Amos of California, Donnie Amos, Callaway, Gary Amos (Carol Ann), Virginia Beach, and David Amos (Vickie), Roanoke; Grandchildren, Greg Amos, Bahrain, Derek Amos (Tara), Georgia, Karissa Fox (Danny), Virginia Beach, and Trinity Peacock (Caleb), Cleveland, TN; One Great-Granddaughter, Selah Amos; special Nephew, Eddie Webster (Connie); special nieces, Heddie Lou Sumner (Bill) and Norene Angell (Herman); numerous other family members and friends. A special thanks to the staff of Building 2, Palliative Care Unit, 3rd Floor VA Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion shown to the family and Raymond! Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010 with Pastor Robert Miller, Chaplain Ronald Michaux, and Rev. Stew Royce officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park with military honors.
