Rebecca Kemp Chandler

Rebecca Elizabeth Kemp Chandler age 63 of Roanoke arose on wings to Glory on Monday, July 29, 2019 following a massive stroke. She graduated from Jefferson High School where she was the head majorette and played the trumpet and won several singing contests. She dreamed of opening a Teashop Pearl and Parasol, loved her family and her Jesus and was always helping people and had a special knack for finding unique gifts. She was loved and will be missed by all. Rebecca was born on November 17, 1955 a daughter of the late Elder Berlon Wise and Cosby Kilby Kemp. She is survived by her four children, Shawn Chandler, Will Chandler, Phil Chandler (Tricia) and Kara Chandler (Carter Smith); her five grandchildren, Ryan Chandler, Austin and Aurianna Chandler, Kinsley Elizabeth and Kaelyn Ivory Smith; one great-grandchild, Lyric Chandler. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Kemp (Cindy); her fiancé, David A. Brown; nieces, Keenan Kemp Brown and Kelley Kemp Gannon; nephews, Evan Kemp and Emory Kemp; nine grandnieces and nephews; her feline companion, Romeo; other family members and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rebecca’s name to Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church 3106 Red Rock Road, Roanoke, VA 24015 or donations may be made to the funeral home either by check, cash, credit or debit card to help with expenses. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Elder Dolph Painter and Elder Thomas Mann officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at White Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Riner. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. "I Want to Spend My Life Mending Broken People" is Rebecca Chandler's theme. Rebecca suffered a severe brain injury as well as overcoming cancer. Rebecca gives God all the glory because she became more healed from her severe brain injury every time she sang for the Lord. Rebecca also won Female Vocalist of The Year for the International Christian Country Gospel Music Association in 1996. She has traveled extensively up and down the east coast singing countless times at nursing homes, orphanages, shopping malls, military events, and prisons. Pretty voices are a dime a dozen but seeing someone moved by tears or feeling the spirit of the Lord is her greatest reward. Rebecca only seeked to honor the Lord with the work He has done in her life. That is her greatest testimony.
