Rex Leroy Smith

Rex Leroy “Duder” Smith, 77 of Union Hall went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 14, 2015. He was preceded in death his parents Bren and Elizabeth Smith, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Faye Smith; brother-in-law Troy Bumgardner. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Navy, having served as a submarinist. His passions in life were the outdoors, especially striper fishing and his Washington Redskins. He was also a member of the Smith Mountain Lake Striper Club, where he served as president for nine years. Rex was a loving and faithful family man who never met a stranger. Surviving are his loving wife Brenda Smith; Daughters Sarah Wenger (Rusty), Laura Hodges (Timmy Brown); granddaughters Christina Nunley (Preston), and Megan Hodges (Matthew Turner), great-grandchildren; Peighton Nunley, Elizabeth Nunley and Savannah Nunley; sisters Pat Hines (Mike), Jackie Bumgardner and Barbara Wells (Jack); many nieces, nephews, special family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (Town Chapel) 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Pastor David Long officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lynch-Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount. www.lynchconnerbowman.com
