Richard Rusgrove

April 16, 1938 — March 17, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Richard Raoul Rusgrove, age 86, of Hardy, VA on Monday, March 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Lagasse Rusgrove; youngest son, Thomas Ethan Rusgrove, granddaughters Esther Marie and Jenny Ruth Rusgrove; and step-son R. Gregory Sorrells.

Richard was a true servant to his country and community. He served his country in the US Air National Guard for 6 years and was a cabinet maker/installer for 38 years at Leo Scott Cabinets. Richard was also a dedicated blood donor for many years donating 23 gallons of blood. He loved his Lord and church family where he was a member at Smith Mountain Lake Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Richard had a passion for his animals and was known as a hobby farmer on his farm in Ferrum where he loved his many goats, chickens, donkeys and especially his favorite donkey, Manny. And more recently at their home in Hardy, their beloved cat, Minnie and dog, Shep.

Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of nearly 16 years, Mary S. Rusgrove. Also surviving are he and Lois’ children Jeff Rusgrove (Kim), Susan Weeks (Joe), Daniel Rusgrove (Judy), Matthew Rusgrove (Stephanie), Andrew Rusgrove (Sara), and Daughter-in-law Leslie Rusgrove. Additionally, Step-daughters, Rebecca Sorrells and Crystal Weidman; a person in his life who he loved like a son, Mike Creelman; and many loved & cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His family would like to give many thanks to the caring staff at Good Samaritan Hospice and asks that in Lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday March 29, 2025 at the Smith Mountain Lake Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastors Danny Poff, Alan Dean and Chaplain Bobby Pickel officiating.
