Rob Prom, 62, of Callaway, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 20, 2024 after a tractor accident while working at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Marie (Melichar) Prom, brother Dave Prom, and sister Cindy (Greg) Nickels. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Leigh (Kirkpatrick) Prom, son, Loren Prom of Newport News, and daughters Crystal (Steve) Prom of Milwaukee, WI, Monica Prom of Callaway, and Jessica (Gabe) Diaz of Wirtz; beloved grandchildren Paloma Flores, Jovani Flores, and Matthias Flores; brothers Larry (Sarah) Prom of Sussex, WI, Mike (Gwen) Prom of Durand, WI, and sisters Joanne (Jim) Wesp of West Bend, WI, Sue (Dale) Heiden of Rhinelander, WI, Patti Skirvin of Mead, WA, and Cathy (Rick) Majkowski of West Bend, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born January 5, 1962 in Port Washington, WI to Don and Marie Prom. One of nine children, he grew up taking part in the family well-drilling business, SCUBA diving in local lakes to collect treasure, hunting in Northern Wisconsin with his dad and brothers, playing football, and spending time with loved ones at the family Land. Rob worked hard to earn a manufacturing engineering degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering while his own father was undergoing the process of being one of the first heart transplant recipients in the country.
Following graduation, Rob moved to Seattle, WA to work for Boeing. In Seattle, he met Leigh at a large church’s singles group. Following working for Boeing, Rob worked for Boise Cascade in Yakima, WA and in International Falls, MN. He next went to Merrill, WI where he was the plant manager for a window company before settling in Callaway, VA in 1999 to work for MW Windows in Rocky Mount. After working at MW and Cooper Wood Products, Rob went to work as a building contractor, working for himself and other companies for the last 20 years. Rob was most recently employed by Capps Home Building Center as a Project Superintendent.
Rob was passionate about hunting, running, building, pouring into other people, and sharing his faith with the world. Never living near family, it was the church that became the Prom’s “family” wherever they lived. Franklin Heights Church has been that family since moving to Franklin County. Rob was an active servant at Franklin Heights Church, ministering through numerous programs including being a Connect Group leader for a couple’s class and a Connect Group leader in the Bridge the Gap program.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the community’s outpouring of support for them in this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Heights Church in support of the Bridge the Gap program.
The funeral service will held at Franklin Heights Church’s Rocky Mount campus at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30,, 2024 with Pastor Caleb Walker officiating. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment will follow at the Callaway Community Cemetery before a gathering at the Callaway Fire Hall.
