Roy Ernest Johnson age 84 of Rocky Mount passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 in the local hospital. Roy retired from Kroger with over 40 years of service and was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church. He loved bluegrass music and was an audience representative along with his wife Doris for the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo club.
Roy was born on August 21, 1936 a son of the late Otho and Annie Mae Phillips Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Johnson; daughter-in-law, Paula E. Johnson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Katherine Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Johnson; his children, Paul Johnson, Susan Woody (Jeff) and Mark Johnson (Cristy); five grandchildren, Amanda Robertson (Josh), Scott Woody (Robin), Cory Johnson (Marissa), Tyler Johnson and Trevin Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Kobie, Kolbrin, Lily, Isabella, and one to be born at the end of April, Virginia Emily. He is also survived by a brother, Jasper Johnson (Thelma); sister, Eleanor Bishop (Eddie); brother-in-law, Bobby Johnson; special friend, Bennie Gearheart.

Funeral services will conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Winn officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.
