Ruth Prillaman Carter

Ruth Prillaman Carter, 85, of Henry, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She retired from Bassett Furniture after over 30 years of service. As a long time member of Prillaman Baptist Church in Henry, VA and a founding member of Henry Community Center. She spent her life dancing, laughing and loving her family with all her heart. The tough-as-nails, biscuit making, playground fighting local legend was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Raymond Lee Carter; parents, Sam and Genoa Prillaman; siblings, Jim Prillaman, Virginia Webb, Betty Sue Prillaman, Alice Thompson; children, Richard “Ricky” Carter and Michael “Mike” Carter; grandson, Calvin Akers; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Hundley and Connor Williams. Ruth is survived by children, Helen Carter Akers and husband, Earl of Callaway, Gail Goad of Henry; daughter-in-law, Sandra “Sam” Sink Carter of Sydnorsville; grandchildren, Paula Furrow, Ronda Jackson and husband, Terry, Brad Akers and wife, Dawn, Lisa Hundley and husband, Matthew, Melissa Broadstreet and husband, Bruce, Monica Tatum and husband, Timothy, Christy Williams and husband, Brian; great grandchildren, Travis Prillaman, Ethan and Bethany Jackson, Ariel, Carter and Dillon Hundley, Benjamin and Thomas Kellison, Jem and Sarah Kate Tatum, Ruthie Bray Williams; sister, Isabelle Jamison of Martinsville. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 5th Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount. Funeral services officiated by Rev. Mike Magnani will be conducted on Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 P.M.. Interment to follow at the Prillaman Family Cemetery on Nicholas Creek Road, Henry, VA.
