Ruth Hubbard Perdue

Ruth departed this life on May 29, 2012 at her home with family and friends near her. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Claude and Ora Bell Hubbard. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 52 years, Claude (Tom) Perdue. Also her brothers, Curtis Hubbard, Wilson Hubbard, sister, Odell Harman, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fannie and George Ayers preceded her in death. Ruth was a stay at home Mom and farmer who was always there for “her girls” and her husband. She later worked and retired from Piedmont Vendors at the Lane Co. where she had many friends. She was a dedicated member of Redwood United Methodist Church where she was the Secretary for the Sunday School, participated in many fund raisers, and served in any way she could. Although she had many medical problems in the last five years, she always had an “I’ll try” attitude and was a very strong lady. One of her greatest pleasures was watching the birds at the feeder outside her window. She is survived by three daughters: Patsy (Bob) Wingfield of Vinton, Janet (Leon) Pugh of Glade Hill, and Karen Young (Donald Mabry) of Rocky Mount. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Steve Pugh of Salem, Lori Jane Pugh of Glade Hill and Sarah Wingfield Saar of Jeffersonville, IN., and her great-granddaughter, Izabell Payton Saar who was born May 28, 2012. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and three wonderful caregivers who became family friends: Irene Mattox, Juanita David and Tressi Young. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 140 Floyd Avenue, 11:00 am Friday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
