Sally Kate Manning Davis passed away peacefully at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the age of 85. Born on May 2, 1932 in Glade Hill, Va to the late Brice and Blanche Manning. She began her work career at the age of 18 for the E.I. Dupont Company. She continued to work there until early retirement. She then became co-owner of “Davis 76 and Restaurant” in Gogginsville for 12 years. She was of the Christian faith and baptized at an early age at Craft United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing Rook and Rummy card games with family and friends. She was known for her delicious homemade pound cakes and fried apple pies. Many people throughout the years enjoyed a meal in her home. She enjoyed music and sitting around talking and joking with her buddies. She was generous with her time and would help others anyway she could. Even though late in life she struggled with health issues her grandchildren said, "she was one tough granny.” She always kept them laughing with her crazy antics. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Davis and Son Dennis Davis. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Fletcher, William, Luther, Joe, Walter and Samuel Manning and three sisters Grace Cundiff, Kathleen Dillon and Frances Perdue. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Don and Kim Davis of Penhook, Eddie and Dormi Davis of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by grandchildren David Davis of Newport News, PVT., Noah Davis, US Army, currently stationed in Germany, Eli, Chase and Amelia Davis. Kate is also survived by brothers Henry and Wayne Manning and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center for 12 ½ years of dedicated service and compassion to their mom. Also, many thanks to Carilion Hospice for their guidance and support. Many thanks to Pastor Joe Dillon and Minister Ted Clifton and his wife Sandy for years of spiritual visits. Thank you to all the people who visited mom through the years especially the family of Howard Perdue, also thanks to Nancy Mitchell for her great beautician skills. Family requests no flowers or food. Memorial contributions may be made to: Helping Hands of Franklin County, 200 Dent St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Lynch Conner Bowman is in charge of arrangements. Services and burial will be private. Moms last months was filled with her happiness and joy to finally meet Jesus.
