Sandra Kay Randall, 78, of Boones Mill, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with her loving husband Alan by her side.

Sandy was born in Brook, Indiana, on November 8. 1943, and is survived by her husband of 58 years, Alan Randall, three sisters: Joyce (Steven) Quint of Lithia, FL;  Glenda (Steve) Gray of Oklahoma City; Nancy Lobeck of Oklahoma City; four nieces: Brook Kriebel, Dr. Shelly Pierson Hunter, Miranda Pierson Hassler, and Kelly Harper; two nephews: Scott Quint and Kyle Lobeck, and six great-nieces.

Sandy was valedictorian of her Brook High School class and earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters Degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from Northern Illinois University.

She taught high school English at Janesville Senior High School in Wisconsin and then at Maine Township High School West in Des Plaines, Illinois. Upon getting her Masters Degree in Administration, she served as assistant principal at Edison Junior High in Wheaton, Illinois. In 1989 she became principal of Coultrap Middle School in Geneva, Illinois. She then played a vital role in the design of Geneva Middle School South and as its founding principal, provided middle school curricular leadership. She was a candidate for the Kane County Educator-of-the-Year award in 1998 where she shared that “the concept of growing and becoming form[ed] the foundation of my life and career” and her guiding principles that “all of us are smarter than one of us and... all students can learn”.

Sandy designed three of their family homes, one in Illinois, and two in Virginia where she and Alan retired and where she was an avid quilter, weaver, knitter, cross stitcher, cook, landscaper, and flower gardener. Sandy enjoyed Roanoke Symphony Orchestra concerts and word games, especially those involving cognitive skill and wordplay.
