Thomas R. Hubbard, Sr., 80, of Rocky Mount, VA passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Sunday, October 27th, 2013. He was born January 3rd, 1933 to the late Jesse Columbus & Ergie Viola Hubbard in Roanoke, VA. He was preceded in death by brothers George W. Hubbard, Jesse C. Hubbard, Jr., Henry V. Hubbard; sisters, Dorthy V. Jones and Mary O. Mabry and very special friend James Perry Brown.
Thomas graduated from Ferrum High School and was part of the 1951 class of Ferrum College. Thomas was a Korean War Veteran honorably serving in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. During this time he served on various air craft carriers including the USS Antietam as a aviation mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to Franklin County, VA and owned and operated Hubbard Sheet Metal Works, Inc. for 40+ years among other businesses including Rockbridge Heating & Cooling, Gasohol of Franklin County, Floatwell Boat Docks, Fairground Grocery, Hubbard Properties and towards the end of his career becoming an avid fruit and cattle farmer serving at one point as the Vice-President of Springlake Livestock Market. In addition, Thomas was a Freemason and a member of the International Association of the Lion's Club. A devout Christian, Thomas was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.
Thomas was above all a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Uncle. He is survived by his Loving wife of 34 years, Pasty Jenkins Hubbard; son, Thomas R. Hubbard, Jr. and wife Evonne P. Hubbard of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Mary H. Turman and husband Larry L. Turman of Rocky Mount, VA; son, Matthew C. E. Hubbard and wife Erica L. Hubbard, of Roanoke, VA; loving cousin of the home, Lelia Hubbard of Rocky Mount, VA; sister, Shirley H. Stroupe and husband Harold D. Stroupe of Rochester Hills, MI. His grandchildren; Amanda H. Schoonmaker and husband Doug; Wendy H. Dragone and husband Mark; William J. Hubbard and wife Jennifer; Jamie Turman Joplin Nevers and husband Kenneth and one grandchild expected in January 2014. His Great-Grandchildren, Cassidy Grace Joplin, Thomas Dragone, Darian & Dennis Schoonmaker, Jodi Lynn Metzger, Madelyn & Mackenzie Hubbard and one great-grandchild expected in December 2013. Brother-in-laws; Butch Jenkins and Michael Jenkins; Sister-in-law, Margaret Hubbard; Loving friends; Walter & Barbara Clingenpeel, Cindy Lowe among many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel at 11:00am Wednesday with Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park with military honors.
