Thomas Claiborne (T.C.) Ramsey, 84, of the Bonsack Community in Roanoke passed from this life at his home with wife, Christine, at his side on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
T. C. was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lilly Lacy Ramsey; sisters, Thelma Cundiff and Hilda Davis; and brother, Neville Ramsey. He was also preceded by his and Christine’s most treasured pet, a Boston bull terrier named “Bo Bo”. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Christine Thompson Ramsey; sisters-in-law, Joyce Bernard (Harold), Loraine Pagans (Wayne), Millie Thompson, Christine Corn Ramsey; brother-in-law, Bobby Thompson (Glenda); nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
T. C. grew up in the Sontag Community in Franklin County, VA. He worked on the family farm which raised tobacco. His dad, Tom Ramsey, served as a Deputy Sheriff for Franklin County. After graduating from Franklin County High School in 1951, T. C. enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably from 1951 to 1959. T. C. went all the way to the other end of Franklin County in Ferrum to find the love of his life, Christine. They were married on September 15, 1956 and originally made their home in Rocky Mount and later moved to Roanoke to be closer to employment.
T.C. loved the trucking industry and spent his career in various supervisory positions at several Roanoke firms including Associated Transport, Yellow Freight Lines and Hatcher Trucking until his retirement in 1995.
T. C. and Chris loved to travel, especially in their motorhome, and spent many enjoyable days at beaches in South Carolina, Florida; and in the mountains of Tennessee at Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. They also traveled to Branson MS, Niagara Falls and the Caribbean Islands.
One thing that everyone remembers about T. C. is that he enjoyed cars both classic and new. He was noted for keeping the cleanest cars in the area with not a speck of dust outside or inside including the engine.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 15, 2018 at Conner Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Virginia Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA. with the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour before the service at the funeral home
Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke VA 24018 whose caring staff and nurses enabled T. C. to spend his final weeks well cared for in the comfort of his home.
