Vaughnie Smith Southall departed her earthly life and entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, September 17, 2016, with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Roy Silas Smith and Livie Brown Smith. Along with her parents she was preceded in passing into eternal life with her husband, Geary Gothal “Jack” Southall; her precious granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Mulkey; brother, Silas Alvin Smith; two sisters, Lucille Dillon, Goldie Pugh; two sons-in-law, John “Pete” Mulkey, Billy Carter Guilliams; two nieces, Melissa Divers Lance, Anita Ingram Ciolli; three brothers-in-law, Glenwood Divers, Padgett Dillon, Eugene Ingram. Left to cherish her sweet and unforgetable memory is two daughters, Dr. Fedessa (Abby) Guilliams, Tammy Southall Kingery and husband, Steve; two granddaughters, Wanda Mulkey Berger (Harry), Jackie Mulkey Dyer; four great granddaughters, Andrea Berger, Stephanie Berger, Mandi Hale, Ashleigh Haley; six great great granddaughters, Emileigh Berger, Molleigh Berger, Alexis Surber, Jared Cole Phillippe, Jennilyn Phillippe, Easton Perdue; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline Divers, Christine Angle (Ben Lewis III), Burton “Spike” Pugh, Shirley Lani (Ed).Vaughnie grew up on a farm in Wirtz, VA and graduated from Cross Roads School. She worked 20 years at E. I. Dupont. She was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, she loved her church family, Sunday School Class and especially enjoyed the choir singing. She was a devoted church member as long as her health permitted. She was a long time Honorary member of Redwood Ruritan Club. One of her favorite past times was lunching with her Lunch Bunch. Miss Vaughnie just plain out loved to work and had a way of putting everyone in her sight to work. She loved music, dancing, flowers and serving up her home cooked meals with a special made coconut cake. It was a joy to her heart to have family and friends to share holidays and get togethers. She enjoyed life and met many friends along her journey. Vaughnie met and married the great love of her life Geary Gothal “Jack” Southall, they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, friend and stood by her Mom and Dad throughout their lives. She dearly loved her family and she was the true matriarch of her five generation family. Miss Vaughnie was a highly respected woman by her family and friends. She “right-well” earned it. She leaves to them a legacy of love. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
