Vivian Jeanette Hatcher Pugh, age 71, of Rocky Mount was carried into heaven by angels on Thursday, January 31, 2013, after bravely facing complications from leukemia. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Walter and Eula Mae (Shively) Hatcher, her brother, Archie Hatcher, and sisters, Goldie Bowling and Nona Hatcher. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wayne T. Pugh, two daughters, Sheryl Cobbs (husband, Mitch) of Burnt Chimney, and Stacey Jones (husband Bryan) of Henry, two grandsons, Chase and Cade Cobbs, sisters, Dorothy Wray of Henry, Eva Burnett of Altavista, and Irene Burnett of Ferrum, plus many wonderful nieces and nephews. Vivian was a 1963 graduate of Ferrum College. She worked for many years in the local housing industry as an administrative assistant for Marley Continental Homes; later retiring from Mod-U-Kraf Homes. She and her husband regularly attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she devoted herself to being a prayer warrior to the congregation. Vivian enjoyed finding a great bargain while attending yard sales with her husband, Wayne. However, what mattered most to her was her faith in Jesus Christ, the love shared by her family, her pleasure in having two fine son-in-laws, and the proper pride in her two grandsons. The family would like to thank her devoted physician, Dr. Lowell Inhorn, and his fine staff at the Blue Ridge Cancer Center for their care and treatment of her illness, as well as the attentive and patient staff of the 10 South Oncology Unit of CRMH. The family would also like to thank the special, faithful ladies, who helped provide personal care, Carolyn Saul (New Hope UMC) and Lynndale Spencer (A Nurses Touch). Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin County and Franklin Respiratory Rentals provided exceptional care and kindness during the final difficult days-notably Karen Tosh, Sherri McPeak, Jan Payne, Cindy Ramsey, Dina Reilly, Karen Pagans, and Rick Poland. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donations to either Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or Boones Mill Baptist Church building funds. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Conner Bowman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Conner Bowman with the Reverend Richard Harrell officiating. Interment to follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
