Paul Wesley “Wes” Burnette, 67, of Roanoke VA passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 19, 2015. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Luther and Cova R. Burnett, Ferrum, and maternal grandparents, Willie Claude and Dewey S. Edwards, Endicott; Aunts Reva Goode, Rocky Mount, and Ileta Nolen, Vinton; Uncles Charlie Burnett, Altavista, Bill Burnett and Bob Burnett, Ferrum.
Wes loved life and embraced every day he lived. His love of cars extended from his work as an independent car buyer for various clients to restoring old cars. He was nearing completion of a 1940 Ford Coupe he had restored from the ground up and named after his father, “J.P.”
Many people remain behind to cherish his memory. His devoted wife of 32 years, Melanie Mason Burnette, of the home; the son he adored, Matthew Mason Burnette, Greenville, SC; his mother and father, Deniece and Paul Burnette, Rocky Mount; mother-in-law, Gaynor Mason, Roanoke; aunts Alice Gourley, Henry, Irene Burnett, Ferrum and Eva Burnett, Altavista.
Cousins Lisa Whitlock, Rocky Mount, Sheree Whitlock, Rustburg, Joan Prillaman and Ellen Burnett, Ferrum, Logan Richardson, Henry, Suzanne Moore, Smith Mountain Lake, Richard Burnett, Altavista, Diane Trisler, Jonesville, LA and Steve Nolen, Vinton; his racquetball buddies, his car guys and his motorcycle cronies and the all the best friends who shared the good times over the years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Francis Service Dogs, P. O. Box 19538, Roanoke VA 24019 or to the donor’s charity of choice.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel, 3:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2015 with the Reverend Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Family Cemetery, Ferrum.
