Wilda Foster Stone, 87, of Sontag passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014. She was born on July 8, 1927 in Rocky Mount, Virginia to the late John R. and Nannie Foster. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Stone Sr.; brothers Clifford Foster (Helen), William Foster (Clara), and Harry Foster (Doris); sisters Frances Vaden (Dick) and Nancy Vassar (Basil). She is survived by her 7 children, Nancy Ledbetter (Morris) of Ferrum, James C. Stone Jr. (Linda) of Roanoke, Julia Stone (J.T.) of Reidsville, North Carolina, Susan Brown (Arnold) of Staunton, Margaret Torrence (Mac) of Sontag, Marian Meeks (Robert) of Sydnorsville, and Mavis Woods of Salem. She is survived by her grandchildren Suzette Ledbetter Young (Spike), Morris W. Ledbetter (Sonya), James C. Stone III (Tara), John Stone (Jessie), Patricia and Darryl Angle, Craig Brown (Toria), Carrie Brown Joines (Chad), Davis and Elizabeth Torrence, Dreama and Cameron Meeks, and Erin and Parker Woods; 3 step-grandchildren, Tranessa Nichols, Brandie Cheeseborough, and Kelly Stone Revels. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Wilda attended Lynchburg College and retired from the Franklin County School System with 20 years of service. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday School class until her health prevented her attendance. Her selfless spirit, sweet smile, and abundant love for her family will be missed by all. She was a blessing in the lives of many and a true lady in every sense of the word. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the American Diabetes Association. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Siddle and Rev. David Saleeba officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 P.M. at her home, 2765 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA and Friday night from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
