William J. Bill Handy

Mr. William J. Bill Handy, 71, of Warner Robins, Georgia and Franklin County, Virginia passed away Friday, April 2, 2010. Bill was married to the former Janet Smith of Martinsville, VA. Mr. Handy was born on May 3, 1938 to the late Mr. James Andrew and Hattie (Via) Handy. Bill was a retired plant manager and supervisor for Bassett Furniture for over 40 years, and U.S. Army National Guard veteran, attended Andrew United Methodist Church. He is survived by Mrs. Janet Handy of Warner Robins, GA; Brothers, Randolph (Peggy) Handy of Danville, VA, Lynwood (Linda) Handy of Martinsville, VA, Roger Handy and Harold Hillbilly (JeRena) Handy both of Rocky Mount, VA; Mother in law Hazel Zeigler of Martinsville, VA, Sisters-in-law, Susan Z. (Dewey) Knight of Collinsville, VA, Joyce Z. (Terrell) Odell of Fieldale, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation in Georgia will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, Warner Robins, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 with Rev. Bill Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Handys name to the Shirley and Billy Weir Scholarship Foundation, 7804 Eagles Landing Court, Columbus, GA 31909.
