William "Billy" Gerald Lucas

William Gerald (Billy) Lucas, Jr. age 51 of Vinton passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Billy was born on July 6, 1965 and faithfully served our community as a police officer and most recently employed as a truck driver for Lawrence Transportation. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and brother who was loved and will be missed by everyone who crossed his path. He was the best guy in the world! He was preceded in death by his father, W.G. Lucas, Sr.; mother-in-law, Barbara JoAnn Kearney. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Avis Lynne Kearney-Lucas; daughter and son-in-law, Taylor Nichole Kearney-Meeks (Ricky); his grandson, Brayden Lee Kearney-Meeks; mother, Shirley Lucas; sister, Diane Vandergrift (John); brother, William Daniel “Danny” Lucas (Chelsey); father-in-law, Thomas C. Kearney, Jr.; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. A memorial service celebrating Billy’s life will be conducted 6 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with his brother, Danny Lucas officiating.
