William H. "Bill" Saxon

January 28, 1929 — November 7, 2018

It is with deep sadness we announce that William (Bill) Holmes Saxon, loving husband to Linda Saxon, made his transition on November 7, 2018. Bill was born in Metter, Georgia on January 28, 1929 to Von Delle (Bon) and Dessie H. Saxon. From there, his family moved to Portsmouth, VA, where he spent the rest of his childhood and grew up. Bill graduated high school early and was admitted to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA at age 16. From there, he went to the Pennsylvania School of Optometry and then joined the Unites States Navy. He served during the Korean War from 1951-1955, during which time he served on air craft carriers that transported U.S. troops to and from Korea. He married Alice Johnson in 1952. In 1955, Bill and Alice moved to Rocky Mount, VA where he started his optometry practice in August of the same year. In 1976, Bill and Al Angle went into business together and formed Saxon Angle & Associates, PC. Soon after that, they opened and additional three practices across the region. In 1988, Bill retired and moved to Hilton Head Island, and in 1996, married Linda Finch to whom he remained married until his passing. He spent the best years of his retirement with Linda in Hilton Head along with their dogs. Bill enjoyed golf, attending the Heritage Golf Tournament every year. He loved the weather and peacefulness of Hilton Head. He said many times that no matter how cloudy or dreary the weather was, it was always cheerful in our home. Hilton Head is where he loved to be. Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Saxon. Bill is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Linda Finch Saxon; his daughter and son-in-law: Pam Saxon and John Hinchey; Granddaughters: Kira Hinchey and Rachel Hinchey; Step-daughters: Stephanie Kendrick (Terry) and Angelia Massey; Step grandchildren: Brittany Massey and Bryce Hall Bill is also survived by a special friend, Alice Johnson Saxon. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (Route 220 @ Wirtz Road) with brief remarks by family and very close friends. After remarks, Bill will be honored for his dedicated and faithful service to our country with military honors.
