Woodrow W. "Woody" Guthrie, age 83 of Boones Mill, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 25, 1935 a son of the late Wilbur and Lillie Angell Guthrie. Woody was a 32°Mason with Isaacs Lodge #29 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Scottish Rite, Kazim Shriners, Piedmont Shrine Club and Roanoke Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Minnix “Pat” Guthrie; son, James A. “Jim” Guthrie (Janie); his grandchildren, Brittney Sigmon (Chris), Amanda “Mandi” Guthrie, Megan M. Guthrie and Brian McGinn; adopted grandson, Reaves Ward; great-granddaughter, Hayden Sigmon; brothers, Jim “Monroe” Guthrie and Johnny Guthrie; sisters, Frances G. Donahue, Nadean Guthrie and Shirley G. Feazelle; half-brother, Billy Guthrie; half-sister, Nancy Stanley; many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to: Shriners Children’s Hospital, Transportation Fund, 628 West Campbell Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia 24016.
A memorial service celebrating Woody’s life will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Steele officiating followed by masonic rites. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 5 p.m. and also after the service.
Woody’s favorite quote, one in which he lived: “Knowledge ain’t worth a damn, unless you pass it on”.
